It was a full house for the Packaging Council of Australia's Australian Packaging Design Awards presentation in Melbourne on 12 November.

Brand owners, pack designers and packaging suppliers involved in the design projects selected as finalists were eager to hear who had won the gold awards in the six main and five special categories and the grand prize: overall best of show.

To lighten the suspense, MC for the night,  comedian Denise Scott punctuated her script with humorous anecdotes, engaging the audience and the prize winners in playful repartee.

In his address, PCA CEO David Carter drove home the importance of good design from a sustainability perspective, and noted that as Government engaged with industry in negotiations for extending the Covenant, the value of packaging design that lifts the bar on resource reduction, inclusion of recycled content and increased recycling is high on the agenda. Many of this year's winners met these design criteria, and more.
