UPM Raflatac has upgraded all its backing papers used in the Southeast Asia market to FSC-certified stock, bringing it closer to its goal of using only certified paper by 2030.

The manufacturer bills itself as one of the world’s leading producers of self-adhesive label materials, with 3000 staff around the world and $US1.9bn in sales in 2018.

According to Noora Piila, senior specialist, Responsible Sourcing, UPM Raflatac, the company has supplied FSC-certified products since 2008, and actively cooperates with the organisation worldwide.

“The upgrade is motivated by the growing demand for responsible packaging options, as well as our strong commitment to verifiably sustainable product offering,” Piila said.

FSC certification recognises well-managed and sustainable forest operations, with products featuring a lifecycle approach across the entire forest supply chain. UPM Raflatac now plans to take a similar approach in North Asia, and says it will work to launch more products with sustainable liners.
