Taghleef Industries' BOPP high barrier four-side sealed sachet, developed with Gerosa Group, is a Packaging Europe Sustainability Awards 2022 winner in the Recyclable Packaging category for Pre-Commercialised Innovation.

According to the film solutions company, the award-winning high-barrier sachet aims to replace multi-material structures made of PET/Alu/PE or PET/metPET/PE in applications such as dry powder products or dressing sauces.

The innovative structure has important advantages in terms of recyclability and unit weight reduction, and good performances in terms of product protection, says Taghleef Industries. This, it says, is due to the use of Extendo Xzmc and the packaging's PP-based design which offers "excellent" performing sealing properties and tear propagation for "convenient" packaging opening.

All award winners were announced at a dinner at the Innovation Horizon conference in Amsterdam on 14 November.

Winners of the Pre-Commercialised Innovations are selected for conveying solutions covering the most important areas of emerging innovations that will be entering the market in the future.

Taghleef Industries supports the preservation of material through a portfolio that allows the redesign of traditional multi-material structures which will not fit the recyclability requirements. This is offered through its Dynamic Cycle approach, which is a set of initiatives aimed to address sustainability issues within and for its stakeholders, with the goal of contributing to the quality of life for generations to come.

The BOPP high barrier four-side sealed sachet is expected to be launched by Taghleef and Gerosa in 2023 at the end of the validation program, with the cooperation of selected customers.
