Beauty packaging manufacturer and provider Quadpack renewed its B Corp certification, with its score rising from 82 to 106 following reassessment three years after first certification.

The company said the increase reflects changes across its operations, including packaging-related practices such as certified sourcing of raw materials and expanded life-cycle data for products. Quadpack maintains certified sourcing for materials including wood through FSC and PEFC schemes, and provides life-cycle assessments for products in its catalogue to calculate Scope 3 carbon emissions. It also holds sustainability ‘master data’ for products supplied to customers, based on weight-based calculations and end-of-life analysis by destination country.

The reassessment covered people, environment, customers and community. Quadpack said all workers on its payroll receive a living wage, with pay levels at 20 per cent above minimum wage in nearly all locations. The gender pay gap was reported at 8.9 per cent, with women’s average hourly earnings increasing by 6.6 per cent by the end of 2024. Health, wellness and safety initiatives were introduced across offices and factories, alongside a DEI&B plan.

On environmental management, Quadpack deployed an AI-powered tool to capture live carbon data and monitor waste and water use, which the company said supports a data-based approach to sustainability.

In managing its supply chain, Quadpack said suppliers are onboarded to meet requirements including EcoVadis and/or Sedex, ISO 14001, ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 certifications, along with other third-party certifications where relevant. Supplier sustainability data is centrally held and subject to updates and an annual audit.

Alexandra Chauvigné, CEO at Quadpack, said, “We’re incredibly proud. We have made some real progress. By prioritising safety and fairness, we are taking care of our people. By relying on hard data, we are lowering our carbon footprint. By offering transparency, we are helping our customers make informed choices. And by reaching out to the community, we are sharing best practice and fuelling the eco-transition of the beauty industry. However, sustainability is a journey that’s continuously evolving. There’s a lot of work still to be done, but our elevated score shows how incremental changes build up to make a big difference, to ensure a positive impact for all.”

A blend of salt, red wine vinegar, and water – known as Posca – was the ‘original sports drink’, helping to keep the soldiers of the Roman Empire marching up to 30 kilometres per day.
