Pact Group has significantly expanded its processing and recycling capacity for locally-sourced post-consumer resin.

As of this month, Pact is offering high volumes of recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET), recycled high density polyethylene (rHDPE), and recycled polypropylene (rPP) for its packaging options including food, bottles, personal care, household, and industrial products.

According to Andrew Smith, sustainability executive general manager at Pact Group, the company is the largest recycler of post-consumer resin in the Southern Hemisphere, with more than 30,000 tonnes recycled per annum.

“Recycling post-consumer waste is more challenging due to the level of contamination in the waste stream and level of processing required to be able to create high quality recycled food grade resin. Over the past year we have committed to expand our capacity to recycle post-consumer waste by an additional 35,000 tonnes per annum.

“Our increase in volume of locally sourced and processed post-consumer recycled resin demonstrates our considerable progress towards achieving the Group’s 2025 End of Waste Promise, a pledge centred on leading the industry toward a circular economy,” he said.

Pact’s 2025 targets include eliminating non-recyclable packaging from its lineup; offering solutions to reduce, reuse and recycle all single use secondary packaging in supermarkets; and including 30 per cent recycled content across its packaging portfolio.
