Australia’s packaging industry is on the brink of major change, and leaders across the sector are being called to the table. The Empauer Packaging Symposium, hosted in collaboration with the Royal Society of Victoria, is set to take place on 28 March 2025 at the iconic RSV building in Melbourne. This event will provide packaging professionals and senior management with the insights and tools needed to navigate the evolving compliance landscape.

With the Federal Government’s Reform of Packaging Regulation – Climate under consideration, the spotlight is firmly on the need for industry to prepare for sweeping regulatory reforms. Non-compliance could lead to financial penalties, operational disruption, and reputational damage. The Symposium is designed to help businesses mitigate these risks by providing clarity, guidance, and forward-thinking strategies.

A critical conversation for industry

This focused, two-hour symposium will unpack the most pressing issues facing the packaging sector today. In fast-paced snapshot sessions from industry leaders, key topics to be covered include the future of packaging regulation, greenwashing and enforcement priorities, sustainable design, brand trust, and the role of innovation in meeting compliance and environmental goals.

Attendees will hear directly from leaders across government, regulatory bodies, and industry:

·     Chris Foley, CEO, Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO)

·     Nick Heys, Consumer and Fair Trading Division, Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC)

·     Dr Steve Lapidge, CEO, End Food Waste Australia

·     Matt Kuperholz, Chief Data Scientist, Empauer

·     Richard RalphSmith, Partner, DPR&Co

·     Richard Smith, Amcor

·     Michael Grima, Founder, qDesign

From greenwashing laws to AI in packaging, the program spans compliance, innovation and practical solutions — equipping delegates with the knowledge to lead their organisations into a more sustainable and compliant future.
