BioPak has released a new edition of its Leaf Cup Series in collaboration with Greenfleet, featuring designs inspired by native trees planted as part of a reforestation project in New Zealand’s South Island.

The series, exclusive to NZ, showcases illustrations of Wineberry (makomako), New Zealand broadleaf (kāpuka), and kohuhu (kōhūhū), referencing species planted at the Wenborn Forest site. The launch coincides with World Rainforest Day on 22 June.

Craig Irwin, managing director at BioPak NZ, said the latest range was intended to help highlight the company’s ongoing partnership with Greenfleet and the importance of native reforestation efforts.

“The Wenborn Forest is a legally protected site for the next 100 years. Over its lifetime, it will sequester approximately 5400 tonnes of carbon dioxide, which is equivalent to 2700 return flights between Melbourne and Dunedin. Its role in climate action is significant, and we hope to continue to raise awareness of this precious ecosystem through our BioPak Leaf Cup Series,” said Irwin.

BioPak’s original Leaf BioCup was launched in 2006. The company has been donating one per cent of its profits to Greenfleet since 2019 under its ‘Give Back Program’, contributing to the planting of 6726 trees to date.

Annabel O’Neill, acting CEO at Greenfleet, said, “Greenfleet is fully funded by our supporters, making long-term partnerships like the one we have with BioPak invaluable, as we continue growing our forests, restoring nature, and growing climate hope.”

“We have planted over 30 locally native, fast-growing species that will thrive in the exposed conditions at Wenborn. This diverse species mix reflects the pre-clearing forest type and will stimulate natural recruitment and other ecological processes as the forest grows.”

The Wenborn Forest project aims to restore a dense, biodiverse forest, mirroring the ecosystem before land clearing.

The new Leaf Cup Series is now available to cafes and businesses across NZ.
