3M emerged as the APCO 2020 Industry Sector winner – General Merchandise & Apparel, based on excellent performance in its APCO Annual Report.

Building on last year’s excellent efforts to improve packaging sustainability and reduce waste, this reporting period, 3M proudly achieved a zero waste to landfill result across 30 per cent of its sites.

Through a comprehensive review against the Sustainable Packaging Guidelines as well as Life Cycle Assessment tools, 3M Australia also reduced 279kg of packaging across its range.

The company also committed to including recycled and renewable materials within its packaging, and continued to actively engage its consumers on the importance of recycled content and packaging sustainability through on-pack labelling and customer campaigns.

Similarly, 3M Australia has diligently worked to ensure supplier adherence to packaging sustainability goals through its comprehensive Responsible Business Conduct policy and Sustainable Supplier Agreements.

One of Queensland’s largest vegetable farming and production companies, Kalfresh, has received a joint $80 million investment from the Queensland Investment Corporation (QIC) and Wollemi Capital to build Australia’s first integrated food and energy precinct.

New research from RMIT University suggests saltbush could help food manufacturers improve protein quality and reduce the reliance on added salt in staple foods. The drought-tolerant shrub has been used as bush tucker by Indigenous Australians for thousands of years.

The Brewers Association of Australia CEO, Amanda Watson, has stepped down from the role. Watson, who became CEO in July 2025, said she was pursuing a different career direction.
