New Zealand start-up MMC Tradelink is incorporating glow-in-the-dark shrink wrap labelling technology in the newest addition to its Water Buddies range of infant beverage products.

The company has launched a sixth variant to its range, Just Like Lemonade, in bottles sporting the revolutionary glowing labels.

The creator of the Water Buddies line, MMC Tradelink managing director Sian Leonard, said the glow-in-the-dark labels were developed by an in-house team at her company alongside technologists from Sydney-based Adhesif labels.

“This new packaging is incredibly exciting and combines our passion for delivering both innovation and a healthy, low-sugar option to children and parents,” Leonard said.

The bottle also features a clear porthole window showing the water inside, a feature which will also be incorporated on all other variants in the Water Buddies range.

The original bottles in the range, launched in NZ last year and on the Australian market earlier this year, had already garnered a number of awards in MMC Tradelink's home market, including a flavour packaging design prize at the NZ Food Awards in Auckland and the best innovative water prize at the NZ's Juice and Beverage Awards.

MMC Tradelink worked with New Zealand agency Mount Deluxe on the original bottle design, based around a unique bottle shape designed to be easy for children to grasp as well as convey a feeling of fun and play.

To produce the bottles, the company partnered with a New Zealand plastics manufacturer, Pharmapac.

Food & Drink Business

A lot of food and beverage brands look strong when they’re small. They have one product, one pack, one clear idea and then they grow. That’s usually when things start to unravel, not all at once, but quickly enough to matter. The Creative Method founder and creative director, Tony Ibbotson, explains why – and growth is not the problem.

Victorian-based Aquafab has completed a $620,000 Series A raise through Birchal, supported by over 300 investors. The company told Food & Drink Business that the funds will support continued national growth and plans in place to enter the US and UK markets this year.

Rumin8 is accelerating its methane reducing feed additive commercialisation progress in New Zealand, garnering $4.4 million (US$3 million) in investment as the company prepares to enter the final trial process.
