The grade of Fellow is the highest recognition to AIP members and is designed to recognise the significant and sustained contribution to the technology, science or application to packaging in the industry. Ralph Moyle and Craig Wellman have just been honoured with a Fellowship each.

Ralph Moyle is packaging development officer at Simplot Australia and national president of the AIP. He was recognised for the significant contribution he has made to the packaging industry over the last 40 years. Moyle is an experienced food and packaging consultant and has worked in many areas in the last forty years, including quality management and control, operational management, and packaging design and development. His most recent work has been with the Packaging Covenant and shelf friendly packaging development. Moyle’s role in many significant shelf-friendly packaging developments currently in Australia and New Zealand stores is a key contributor to this recognition.

Moyle’s packaging knowledge has resulted in successful contemporary designs and material selections, improved shelf life, lower material costs, shorter supply chains and environmentally friendly selections for many companies and his technical expertise is of the highest standard in this industry.

Craig Wellman is chief executive officer of Wellman Packaging, noted for his leadership in the area of plastics technology and injection moulded closures over the last two decades. He has been engaged in the plastics and packaging industries through his family business since the age of six and has led the company to become a top tier supplier of rigid packaging solutions for FMCG in food, pharma, homecare, personal care and beverage, with manufacturing and distribution operations across four main business units - bottles, preforms, closures and thinwall IML.

He is an ardent advocate of development in packaging and process technology and he holds a number of patents as an inventor, especially in the area of injection moulded closures.

Food & Drink Business

A lot of food and beverage brands look strong when they’re small. They have one product, one pack, one clear idea and then they grow. That’s usually when things start to unravel, not all at once, but quickly enough to matter. The Creative Method founder and creative director, Tony Ibbotson, explains why – and growth is not the problem.

Victorian-based Aquafab has completed a $620,000 Series A raise through Birchal, supported by over 300 investors. The company told Food & Drink Business that the funds will support continued national growth and plans in place to enter the US and UK markets this year.

Rumin8 is accelerating its methane reducing feed additive commercialisation progress in New Zealand, garnering $4.4 million (US$3 million) in investment as the company prepares to enter the final trial process.
