Delivery drones will be able to determine their own route across the warehouse floor and digitalisation is going to play a bigger role in manufacturing.
These were the findings at a show focused on the future of logistics and materials handling in Melbourne this month.
Over the three days, attendees to CeMAT Australia heard from experts, including European thought leaders, about trends in automation.
Sascha Schmel, MD of materials handling and logistics at VDMA, spoke about the way in which new autonomous vehicles interact with innovative devices to create “symphony-like harmony” on the warehouse floor.
Big data was also a hot topic, and d Oliver Janin from the European Materials Handling Federation said robotic automation and industry regulation were trends that would continue to emerge.
“The biggest trend to have an impact on Australia is the trend of warehouse automation, which is occuring within the context of the digitalisation process,” he said.
“We see this with the implementation of Industrie 4.0.
“By having more data as a result of digitalisation, companies have more insight into improving efficiency and systems.”
On the exhibition floor, Dematic showcased its order fulfilment solution RapidPick XT, and Damon demonstrated a system aiming to deliver efficiency and cost reductions to the warehousing and logistics market.
