Japanese automation firm SMC has been listed in the Forbes Global 2000 as one of the world’s largest public companies.

Wayne Driver from SMC Australia/ New Zealand said the ranking was recognition of its leading positioning and solid reputation.

The Forbes Global 2000 ranking is based on a composite score from equally weighted measures of revenue, profits, assets and market value.

The 2017 list features public companies from 58 countries that together account for $35.3 trillion in revenue, $2.5 trillion in profit, $169.1 trillion of assets, and have a combined market value of $48.8 trillion.

All four metrics are up from the 2016 ranking, with market capitalisation up 10 per cent from last year.

SMC has made the Forbes Top 100 Most Innovative Companies on three different occasions as well.

The former deputy chief of staff to the federal communications minister, Amanda Watson, has been appointed CEO of the Brewers Association of Australia (BAA).  Watson starts in the role on 14 July and replaces John Preston, who had been in the role for five years.

The Victorian government has invested $160,000 to support the sustainability and profitability of the state’s wine industry, matched by $240,000 from Wine Australia. The funds will help Wine Victoria to provide the wine industry with the knowledge, tools and resources needed to improve practices and outcomes.
