Gertjan Boom, business unit manager Asia/Pacific, and Ricky Lie, general manager of PT. Schütz Container Systems Indonesia, welcomed guests from industry, business and politics, at the openingincluding Schutz customers from the food, pharmaceuticals and chemical industry.

The new facility strengthens delivery security and shortens transport distances in the South-East Asian market. Both are especially important in Indonesia. The fourth biggest country in the world is spread over more than 17,000 islands, of which only around 6,000 are inhabited. Accordingly, optimised logistics and close proximity to its customers are Schütz’s primary goals. The advantages include reduced use of fuels, a better eco balance and higher cost efficiency.

The packaging products manufactured in Karawang also offer customers solutions for a wide range of applications. The site is presently undergoing the FSSC 22000 certification process to address the special needs of the food industry. When completed. This will ensure the highest safety and purity standards in materials, production process and end product.

Containers manufactured and filled in Indonesia that are used by Australian customers will be collected by Schütz Australia as part of Schütz's global ticket service, a system that ensures the collection and recycling of Schütz containers throughout the world. Schütz Australia will also continue to supply Indonesia with six-layer intermediate bulk containers which are only manufactured at the Australian facility.
