The Japan Packaging Machinery Manufacturers Association has awarded PopPack LLC of San Francisco the prestigious Creative Technology Award for Packaging Innovation for its novel “bubble in the seal” packaging that makes packages easy to open by using a bubble to “pop open” packages.
PKN first saw the PopPack prototype on show at Tokyo Pack 2014 and you can read more about that here.
The award, presented at Japan Pack 2015 last week, is shared with PopPack’s packaging collaborators including J-Film, Kawashima Packaging Machinery, Mitsubishi Plastics and Tokyo Foods Machinery Company/ Multivac, and OJI, all of whom who are prototype collaborators in bringing PopPack technologies forward to reach global markets.
PopPack’s innovations apply to flexible and semi-rigid packages based on a simple concept, which uses a bubble as a lever to easily open packages when the bubble is popped. PopPack’s inventions are also designed to reduce food and packaging waste – so packages may be reclosed and the contents fully consumed.
PopPack’s newest packaging designs and prototypes demonstrated at Japan Pack 2015 include (1) flexible pour pouches, (2) double bubble sachets, and (3) thermoformed packages. Packages using PopPack are easy to open and allow for controlled dispensing and package re-closure; the packaging material is never torn or destroyed.
In other news, Flextrus, a leader in flexible barrier packaging, has launched the first cooperation agreement in Europe with PopPack LLC.
“This is a bright new world for easy open packaging. PopPack’s technologies will broaden Flextrus’ product offering with additional alternatives for consumer convenient packaging. We look forward to working with new and existing customers to implement these new easy open packaging features for consumer market opportunities in Scandinavia and Europe,” says Ronny Gimbe, Business Development Manager at Flextrus.
The PopPack solution is suitable for consumer products packed in pouches and thermoformed packages, flexible as well as semi-rigid. The packages are easy to open and can be combined with reclosing feature eliminating the need of scissors, knives or teeth to open flexible packages.
