UFP Technologies is a US producer of custom-engineered specialty packaging and products. One of its recent green packaging innovations is plantable packaging. Little Duck Organics is N.Y. startup producing organic baby cereal and snacks.

The two companies have got together to create printed and die-cut packaging embedded with MF Plantable Packaging seed cards for Little Duck Organics’ new product line, Mighty Oats instant cereals. Mighty Oats are made from a variety of ancient grains, fruits, and spices and are aimed at children aged four months old and up.

Plantable Packaging is made from a fibre board material that is 100% recycled and 100% recyclable. A variety of flower, herb and vegetable seeds can be selected to be embedded within the packaging.

The outer carton housing the new Might Oats products contain a plantable insert that yields tomatoes, carrots or lettuce when soaked in water and planted.

The fully biodegradable and compostable packaging of the Mighty Oats product has made it possible for Little Duck Organics to create a sustainable product that produces minimal waste with the added benefit and fun of growing your own vegetables.

UFP Technologies has also created a variety of custom Plantable Packaging solutions including: clamshells for soap packaging, envelopes for gift cards, gift boxes for wine, CD sleeves, business cards, hang tags for retail goods and books marks.

Food & Drink Business

A lot of food and beverage brands look strong when they’re small. They have one product, one pack, one clear idea and then they grow. That’s usually when things start to unravel, not all at once, but quickly enough to matter. The Creative Method founder and creative director, Tony Ibbotson, explains why – and growth is not the problem.

Victorian-based Aquafab has completed a $620,000 Series A raise through Birchal, supported by over 300 investors. The company told Food & Drink Business that the funds will support continued national growth and plans in place to enter the US and UK markets this year.

Rumin8 is accelerating its methane reducing feed additive commercialisation progress in New Zealand, garnering $4.4 million (US$3 million) in investment as the company prepares to enter the final trial process.
