Industry bodies and packaging supply chain companies such as Chep and Visy teamed up to address the losses experienced by growers in the Adelaide floods.

Close to 300 growers and 1500 hectares of crops in the Northern Adelaide Plains were destroyed due to the extreme weather conditions, and there was close to $50 million in damages and losses.

A united effort by companies such as Chep and Visy raised $152,000 for the SA Growers Flood Appeal, which helped support farmers who experienced challenges relating to low seed volumes to resew crops, decreased availability of fungicide to treat surviving crops, and damage caused by weeds and insects.

The appeal was backed by Ausveg and the South Australian Produce Market, who rallied support from the community, industry partners and businesses to help with the purchase of seedlings and assist with the re-establishment of viable crops for the future.

Donations from South Australians and businesses, which included Foodbank, The Horticultural Coalition of SA, CHEP, Visy, IGA Supermarkets and SA Mushrooms, amounted to $152,000.
