PMMI's Pack Expo International has received an award in recognition of its rapid growth in attendees.

Pack Expo has been named the Fastest Growing Biennial Show (Sheer Numbers) by Trade Show Executive (TSE).

The 2014 show, which included Pharma Expo, increased in size by 75,338 net square feet, 387 exhibitors and 6363 attendees.

TSE's Darlene Gudea said Pack Expo “ran way ahead of the pack in 2014, growing an impressive five times faster than the average trade show”.

TSE also ranked the show as the 37th Fastest-Growing Show of 2014 in the Number of Exhibiting Companies category, and honoured it with a Gold 100 Award for its status as one of the largest trade shows of 2014 in net square feet of exhibit space.

Since PMMI introduced Pack Expo in 1956, it has developed from a single show with 136 exhibitors, 5000 attendees and 43,116 net square feet of exhibit space into a portfolio with more than seven shows in the US and Mexico.

This year, presentations will include a focus on contract packaging on the Innovation Stage, and other 30-minute seminars on breakthrough ideas and technologies throughout the day.

Equipment on show will include tna's turnkey system solutions, ROI Machinery & Automation's compact palletiser, and Bosch's SVC vertical form fill seal bagger:

The show will also host a fundraiser called Pack Gives Back, sponsored by DuPont Packaging & Industrial Polymers and featuring recording artist Chicago. It will raise money for the Fisher House Foundation and Nevada’s first Fisher House comfort home in North Las Vegas. The Pack Gives Back event will provide the chance for packaging leaders to network, as well as raise money for a good cause.

Pack Expo Las Vegas will take place from 28 to 30 September, welcoming more than 2000 exhibitors and 30,000 attendees in over 800,000 net square feet of exhibit space.

PKN will be attending the 2015 show in Las Vegas and reporting on the latest innovations.

Food & Drink Business

Fonterra has announced Anna Palairet is the new chief operating officer, having acted in the role since June 2023. CEO Miles Hurrell says Palairet has “extensive experience in operational, customer, sustainability, and sales roles”.

Food & Drink Business editor Kim Berry's take on the big news stories this week, and what caught her eye overseas. How will the Future Made in Australia Act actually be delivered? Shanghai trials traffic light labelling, and Solar Food, making protein out of (virtually) nothing at all, opens its commercial scale facility (that's it in the pic).

Food Frontier’s industry leading annual alternative proteins conference, AltProteins 24, is on in Melbourne on 10 October, with early bird tickets now available.
