The NSW government has demonstrated its support for next week's AUSPACK PLUS 2013 show in Sydney with the announcement the state's minister for fair trading, Anthony Roberts, will officially open the event.

“The NSW Liberals & Nationals Government is committed to encouraging a strong and innovative packaging and processing sector and I look forward to opening the event which showcases the latest technology the industry has to offer,” Roberts said in a statement.

The minister will join with the chairman of the Australian Packaging and Processing Machinery Association (APPMA), Mark Dingley, to officially declare the show open at 9am on 7 May at the Sydney Showgrounds.

AUSPACK PLUS event manager, Luke Kasprzak, said the minister's attendance was particular significant as this year also marks the 30th anniversary of the APPMA.

“The owner of AUSPACK PLUS, the APPMA, is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year and it should be proud that they have continued to grow the exhibition over the last three decades,” he said.

“Having the Honourable Anthony Roberts to officially open AUSPACK PLUS is apt for this special anniversary year for the APPMA.”

AUSPACK PLUS 2013 runs from 7-10 May. The event will feature 307 exhibitors – some 76 from overseas and 231 Australian companies – and over 1100 brands.

The federal government has confirmed it will not proceed with the Tax Laws Amendment (Incentivising Food Donations to Charitable Organisations) Bill 2024, saying the legislation contains “deficiencies that compromise its policy intent”, even as food insecurity remains at record levels across Australia.

A lot of food and beverage brands look strong when they’re small. They have one product, one pack, one clear idea and then they grow. That’s usually when things start to unravel, not all at once, but quickly enough to matter. The Creative Method founder and creative director, Tony Ibbotson, explains why – and growth is not the problem.
