German packaging manufacturer Krones has been awarded an Italian ‘packaging Oscar’ for its direct printing system for plastic bottles.

Krones’ DecoType dress applicator enables clients to print on container structures that were impossible to handle with previous labelling technology.

In comparison to dress featuring labels, direct printing offers more freedom for individualised container design.

With the DecoType system, print heights of up to 200mm can be achieved using UV inks. The machine, in modularised, compactly dimensioned construction, can handle empty plastic containers made of PET, PP or PE; for cylindrical and other special shapes.
