The GS1 General Assembly 2015 is being held today (19 May) in Sydney, with leaders from over 60 countries discussing the organisation’s strategic direction, trade efficiency, APEC member economies, local and international trade, and plans for the future using global GS1 standards.

In attendance will be decision makers from Google, Tesco, The Coca Cola Company, Nestec SA, Mattel Inc., The Procter & Gamble Company, The J.M. Smucker Company, Henkel Laundry and Homecare DE/CH, B. Braun Melsungen AG, Woolworths Limited, Nestlé Australia Limited, Metcash Trading Ltd, Australian Industry Group (AIG), Mondelez International, Coles, CH2, and the Australian Food and Grocery Council (AFGC).

GS1 is a neutral, not-for-profit, global organisation that develops and maintains the most widely-used supply chain standards in the world.

Parliamentary secretary Steven Ciobo will provide a federal government perspective on strategies to support local, national and international business to advance investment, trade development, innovation and productivity across all sectors within Australia and globally.

The GS1 General Assembly 2015 program theme is ‘GS1 Good to Great’, focusing on the continuing evolution of international business through the use of GS1 standards – a common language to identify, capture and share supply chain data to ensure important information is accessible, accurate and easy to read.

Despite established links between R&D, productivity, and economic growth, Australia’s investment in large business R&D has fallen 24 per cent to $2.9 billion – half that of peer countries, a report commissioned by the Business Council of Australia (BCA), Atlassian and Cochlear has found.

Reg Weine has resigned as CEO and managing director of infant formula company, Bubs Australia. He had been in the role since August 2023, having joined the board as a non-executive director in April that year. His replacement, Joe Coote, starts immediately.
