Third-party auditor SCS Global Services has been named Certification Body of the Year by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Australia at its annual Excellence Awards in Melbourne.

SCS is accredited to perform audits under FSC's standards for responsible forestry and chain-of-custody. The award citation said SCS was recognised for its educational activities that raised awareness of the FSC system and excellent stakeholder engagement.

“SCS has certified over 120 Australian and New Zealand companies under the FSC standards and we look forward to seeing the presence of FSC certification expand in the region as well as our collaboration with FSC-Australia,” the executive vice-president of SCS, Dr Robert Hrubes, said.

SCS issued its first FSC certificate in Australia in 2006. The company's certified clients in Australia and New Zealand include HQPlantations, Visy Industries, Carter Holt Harvey and The Laminex Group.

Founded in San Francisco in 1984, SCS provides global leadership in third-party environmental and sustainability certification, auditing, testing, and standards development.

It is a founding member of FSC, has been accredited since the inception of the FSC certification scheme, and is among the top FSC certifiers worldwide, having issued more than 4500 certificates against the full range of FSC standards across the globe and 30 per cent of all certificates issued in Australia.
