Resealing pouch packs and threading needles have had a lot in common until now. They both depended on manual dexterity and patience.

A solution for resealing pouch packs has been invented. Other sealing systems demand that the user align a thin ridge perfectly with a narrow groove and push it inside. Easy-Lock uses two thick bands of self-mating micro hooks. The pouch will seal by squeezing the two polyethylene bands together, even without perfect alignment.

Kellogg's has already begun to use Easy-Lock in all European countries for Special K Muesli and Crunchy Nut. It is easy for older and younger family members to use to preserve the freshness of the cereal in side. It is resistant to becoming clogged by particulates and works well for years.

Easy-Lock is also used by Italy's Illy, Kimbo and Indesit for pouch packs of Uno coffee pods; Frico sliced cheese in the Netherlands; Robin Hood flours in Canada; and France's Yooji won an Oscar de L'Emballage 2013 award for its frozen baby food packaging using Easy-Lock.

An Easy-Lock closure had recently been developed for heavier packaging, extending its uses into sectors such as detergent and pet food.

Easy-Lock by Aplix is on show at interpack  Hall 9, booth 9F26. If you're not going to interpack, here's a video demonstration:

The committee recognised the need for better regulation of the organic industry, but recommended changes be made before it could be passed.
