A new range of UV flexo inks for label and packaging applications offer advances in food safety and hygiene.
Based on a low migration polymeric photoinitiator system with minimised use of small molecules, process inks Steraflex and Steraflex Food, from manufacturer Toyo Ink Arets, are suited to primary food packaging and other sensitive applications where high quality print and low migration potential are required.
Toyo Ink Arets president You Yabe said food safety and hygiene has become a “priority topic” as food packaging converters and brand owners are increasingly aware of environmental health and food safety concerns.
Both inks, available in Australia, are formulated without ITX, Benzophenone and VOCs, making them an environmentally friendly choice.
They are designed for high-speed flexo presses, offering speed, efficiency and economy to the process.
Steraflex’s material design allows flexo printers to leverage the capabilities of high-resolution anilox rolls that require inks of superior fluidity, stability and colour intensity. The company says the product offers ink transfer from the high-resolution anilox and lay-down on a wide variety of substrates, resulting in image quality that can rival offset print for labels.
Steraflex’s high-speed curing ability and good adhesion characteristics makes it suitable for self-adhesive labels and tags, shrink sleeves, flexible packaging and cartons.
Steraflex Food is a UV flexo ink system with low migration and low odour properties. It is formulated to help food label printers and packaging converters achieve print performance results while respecting EuPIA guidelines and materials migration limits listed in the Swiss Ordinance.
Toyo Ink Australia is based in Victoria.
