The Australian Institute of Packaging (AIP) has released the names of the five finalists in the Australia-New Zealand Save Food Packaging Awards.

Developed in conjunction with the World Packaging Organisation (WPO), these awards recognise companies that are developing innovative and sustainable packaging which minimises food losses and food waste, extends shelf life, and improves the supply of food.

The finalists are as follows:

A key component of the Save Food Packaging Awards is to raise the profile of the critical role of packaging in reducing food waste – and therefore the product’s overall environmental impact.

Winners will be announced at the 2016 AIP National Conference Dinner on 1 June at the Crown Promenade, Melbourne.

Food & Drink Business

Advanced biomanufacturer, Cauldron Ferm, has raised $13.25 million in a Series A2 priced round led by Main Sequence Ventures, with participation from Horizons Ventures, SOSV, and NGS Super.

Global consumer goods business, Unilever, has confirmed it is in discussions with McCormick & Co on the sale of its Food business. Both companies have released statements saying while negotiations are ongoing there is no certainty of a deal.

Australian organisations could gain access to the world’s largest pooled research fund by early 2027, as the federal government begins treaty negotiations on association to Horizon Europe, the European Union’s $155 billion flagship research and innovation funding program.
