Flexible packaging specialist Cosmo Films has announced it will install a 10.4m BOPP line by early 2017.

The production line will increase the manufacturer's annual BOPP production capacity from 140k to 200k MT.

The installation will be made at Cosmo's Karjan plant site in India, a facility which already houses BOPP lines, extrusion coating and chemical coating lines, and a metalliser.

The new line will be equipped with automated changeovers, resulting in increased power savings.

Cosmo Films CEO Pankaj Poddar anticipated a strong demand for BOPP films in coming years, particularly from the FMCG sector.

“The output for the production unit can be used for domestic and export markets,” he said.

“Our expansion plans are also aligned with the government’s Make in India project, which aims to boost homegrown manufacturing companies.

"Cosmo Films remains committed to its efforts to develop the sector and set new industry benchmarks.”

In other news for Cosmo Films, Dharmesh Zavery has joined the company to head up its East Asian operations.

Zavery has 15 years' experience in the packaging industry, holding leadership positions in Indian and international markets.
