Submissions for the Packaging & Processing Innovation and Design Awards (PIDA) are now open.

The Australian Institute of Packaging (AIP), the Australian Packaging & Processing Machinery Association (APPMA) and the Packaging Council of New Zealand established the awards to recognise companies and individuals making a difference in their field.

The Design Innovation of the Year company awards also recognise organisations that have designed innovative packaging and processing materials, and innovative packaging and processing equipment.

In addition, there will be a Sustainable Packaging & Processing Award; Save Food Packaging Design Award; Young Packaging & Processing Professional of the Year award; Industry Packaging & Processing Professional of the Year award; and a scholarship.

The APPMA Scholarship and the Packaging Council of New Zealand Scholarship offers one person from both Australia and New Zealand the opportunity to enrol in the Diploma in Packaging Technology.

The APPMA Scholarship will be for Australian applicants, and the Packaging Council of New Zealand Scholarship will be for New Zealand applicants.

The PIDA Awards will be the exclusive award program for all Australia and New Zealand entries into the WorldStar Packaging Awards.

Food & Drink Business

The International Alliance for Responsible Drinking has accelerated its plans to reduce harmful drinking – partnering leading global beer, wine and spirits producers with advertising, public relations, and influencer agencies to ensure alcohol marketing is clearly recognised, responsibly advertised, and aimed at an audience over the legal purchase age.

A new online store, Just a Crumb, has launched to support Australian bakeries in reducing food waste – offering consumers cake offcuts and leftover treats that might otherwise go to waste, delivered to the door.

As the Australian functional beverage market continues to grow, emerging companies are still finding places to slot in. Alcohol recovery drink, Dodge, hit stores in mid-2022, and has taken off across the Asia-Pacific region with its science-backed formula and striking branding. Food & Drink Business spoke with co-founder, Braeden Leahy, about the product and plans for the future.
