Pentawards Concept is an awards competition for the creative thinker. Its website describes the enthusiasm backing these awards, “At Pentawards, we believe that creative ideas move the world; but also that packaging must be constantly reinvented and provide intelligent solutions in order to improve our life and to show more respect for our planet.

We are aware that all kinds of ideas are born every year, but most of them remain confidential and do not benefit humanity.”

Pentawards Concept applauds ideas that lead with quality, pertinence, innovation and creativity – the ones that so often fall by the wayside during the culling process between brain spark and product on shelf.

These awards are open to professional designers, students, freelancers or people in a company. They don't ask for prototypes – just submit graphical images of your packaging concepts. Your ideas do not need to be feasible because of the current state of technology. These awards are as free-spirited in their entry requirements as the designs they will applaud.

Last year, Russian design studio, Istratova, won the Gold Pentawards Concept in Beverages, for a strikingly left of centre pouch pack for a range of vegetable and fruit purees called Kiss.

Pentawards Concept runs in parallel with Pentawards Classic, the awards for packaging that is already on the market. Concept is open to designers, design agencies, producers and brand owners. Most importantly, though, it is open to students who want to show the world new ways of thinking about packaging and inventions that have not yet been marketed.

Food & Drink Business

A lot of food and beverage brands look strong when they’re small. They have one product, one pack, one clear idea and then they grow. That’s usually when things start to unravel, not all at once, but quickly enough to matter. The Creative Method founder and creative director, Tony Ibbotson, explains why – and growth is not the problem.

Victorian-based Aquafab has completed a $620,000 Series A raise through Birchal, supported by over 300 investors. The company told Food & Drink Business that the funds will support continued national growth and plans in place to enter the US and UK markets this year.

Rumin8 is accelerating its methane reducing feed additive commercialisation progress in New Zealand, garnering $4.4 million (US$3 million) in investment as the company prepares to enter the final trial process.
