The international flexibles arm of Australia's Amcor has been recognised for its design excellence after taking out  the Best Packaging Innovation award  at this year's Water Innovation Awards in Barcelona for its Amcor AquaFlexCan product.

AquaFlexCan, now enjoying consumer popularity under Iconiq Drinks commercial brand, was originally developed for the sports market and was introduced for the first time earlier this year at several UK marathons.

The Iconiq Drinks water pouch also came in finalist in the Best New Brand or Business category. The judging panel, of six experts from the beverage industry, considered over 75 entries from 19 countries in 12 categories.

“From striking packaging to new flavours and functionality, these awards once again demonstrate that innovation continues to be a key driver in the packaged water industry,” FoodBev Media Group Editorial Director and Chair of the judging panel, Bill Bruce, said.

Amcor Felxibles Europe and Americas marketing manager for beverages, Girogio Dini, said the award demonstrated the market appeal of new innovative beverage packaging designs.

“Since we first introduced AquaFlexCan, Amcor Flexibles has improved the quality of the pouch and we are delighted to partner with Iconiq Drinks who recognises the benefits of this innovative product and has engaged to market it under their main brand,” he said.

"Iconiq Drinks is a dynamic and active company fully aligned with our approach of constantly looking for smart ideas."

He said Amcor was confident that the popularity of the innovative environmentally optimised portable and practical pouch would increase as it continues to offer a unique drinking and running experience to all marathon enthusiasts.
