Five finalists have been announced in the annual scholarship program run by the APPMA and the Australian Institute of Packaging (AIP).

The finalists are Shabbeer Ahmed Shaik Mohammed (packaging engineer, General Mills), Liz Cagorski (creative director, Liza Rose Design & Communications), Michael Seaman (packaging & process improvement specialist, Integria Healthcare), Evone Tang (quality manager, The Kraft Heinz Company) and Dineshan Thangavel (packaging technologist, Lion).

The winner will have the opportunity to complete a Diploma in Packaging Technology, which prepares students to take responsibility for packaging operations at any level through the supply chain and is valued at $9,000.

The final result will be announced during the AIP National Conference, held on 1-2 June at the Crown Promenade Hotel in Melbourne.

Last year's prize went to joint winners Alysha Baggett from Frucor Beverages and Alexandra Brayshaw from Arthritis Australia (both pictured with Ralph Moyle and Mark Dingley).

Food & Drink Business

Advanced biomanufacturer, Cauldron Ferm, has raised $13.25 million in a Series A2 priced round led by Main Sequence Ventures, with participation from Horizons Ventures, SOSV, and NGS Super.

Global consumer goods business, Unilever, has confirmed it is in discussions with McCormick & Co on the sale of its Food business. Both companies have released statements saying while negotiations are ongoing there is no certainty of a deal.

Australian organisations could gain access to the world’s largest pooled research fund by early 2027, as the federal government begins treaty negotiations on association to Horizon Europe, the European Union’s $155 billion flagship research and innovation funding program.
