Viva Energy has launched PlasVE, a new brand name for the polypropylene (PP) products manufactured at its Geelong site, marking a fresh chapter for Australia’s only domestic producer of polypropylene.

The company says the rebrand represents more than just a change in name –  it signals a renewed commitment to supporting advanced recycling and circular plastics solutions in Australia. Viva Energy’s polymers will remain unchanged in quality and performance under the new branding.

“As Australia’s only manufacturer of polypropylene, we remain committed to delivering high-quality, reliable polymer solutions – and rest assured that our products remain unchanged during this brand update,” says James Harrington, Polymers sales and commercial manager at Viva Energy.

Platform for circular progress

The PlasVE brand includes PlasVE-Bio, a product line that integrates bio-based raw materials into circular polymer products. One example is Viva Energy’s recent production of ISCC+ certified bio-circular polypropylene, made using feedstock derived from used cooking oil (UCO) processed at the company’s Geelong refinery. This initiative demonstrates how alternative feedstocks can support the development of food-grade recycled plastics.

The Geelong-based polymer plant, located at the Viva Energy Hub, manufactures polypropylene for a broad range of applications by third parties. Customers use Viva Energy polypropylene to make flexible packaging films, labels, banknote substrate, non-woven fibres, houseware, caps and closures, rigid packaging, blow-moulded containers, stationery, and industrial piping.

Viva Energy also produces masterbatches and compounds, and supplements its offering with imported polypropylene, polyethylene, and other polyolefins through regional and global partnerships.

Momentum builds for circular solutions

The PlasVE rebrand comes just as Viva Energy reaches a milestone in its circular plastics program. In May this year, the company successfully processed 9.5 tonnes of plastic pyrolysis oil (PPO) at its Geelong Refinery, the largest volume to date, as part of a joint project with Cleanaway to establish a national soft plastic recycling facility. The trial demonstrated the refinery’s capacity to process PPO at industrial scale, reinforcing Viva Energy’s position as a key player in Australia’s transition to a circular plastics economy.

With its dual focus on local polymer production and sustainable feedstock innovation, Viva Energy’s PlasVE brand positions the company at the forefront of Australia’s efforts to create a closed-loop system for plastics.
