Renewable packaging solutions company Stora Enso is upgrading its flagship carton board for better print results.

The luxury and graphical board, called Ensocoat by Stora Enso, will be upgraded to provide better whiteness and shade.

Product manager Eva Lundqvist said the company's key focus was in producing quality virgin-fibre carton board to satisfy the high-end goods market.

"Luxury packaging typically involves embossing, foil stamping and other special effects that demand a lot from the material,” she said.

“Its smoothness, whiteness and folding properties need to be considered.

“With Ensocoat we want to offer our customers a carton board with the market's best visual appearance.

“Whiteness and brightness are the key technical properties, and we're also looking into whiteness as an aesthetic experience based on insights gathered from our customers and stakeholders."

Ensocoat by Stora Enso is used globally for demanding graphical applications and luxury packaging for consumer products such as cosmetics, perfumes, champagne, spirits and chocolate.

It is made out of renewable material, and belongs to the category of SBS (solid bleached sulphate) board, which is the highest quality category in carton board, made from pure virgin fibre.

The new board quality will be introduced in full scale at the Interpack 2017 packaging exhibition in Dusseldorf, Germany this May.
