Specialty BOPP films manufacturer Cosmo Films has added several new barrier films to its range, including transparent and metalised varieties.

According to Cosmo, solvent-free coated films used for FMCG packaging applications help extending the shelf life of the contents inside, as well as helping with pack structure rationalisation.

The company's new transparent barrier films include aroma barrier films (AB), which are typically used for overwrapping coffee and tea, spices, chewing gum and perfume boxes.

Another type is aroma and oxygen barrier films (AOB), which have strong moisture and gas barrier properties and are used for packaging cream biscuits, chocolates, chips and snacks with a higher fat content.

Ultra high barrier films (UHB) have excellent moisture, aroma and gas barrier properties with OTR<1 cc, and are used to convert three layer laminates to two layers for packaging of aromatic and fat-rich products such as dry fruits, nuts, and spices.

These films also offer mineral oil resistance.

Cosmo's metalised barrier films include several varieties as well.

High-moisture barrier films (HMB) are corona-treated on both sides and can be used for duplex as well as sandwich lamination in snack foods, shampoo sachets, dry milk powder and powdered drinks sachets/ packs, where loss of moisture is a concern.

High-speed barrier films with high hot tack (HSB) enable FFS machines to run at a higher speed, helping improve productivity.

High-seal strength barrier films (HSS) are metalised moisture and oxygen barrier films which have been specially designed for packaging applications requiring high seal strengths.

And ultra-high barrier films (UHB) can be used to substitute aluminum foil since they offer a MVTR and OTR <0.1 cc.

All Cosmo's barrier films have good printability, so can be used for monolayer applications also.

Cosmo is focused on both shelf life extension and reduced plastic consumption.
