A free Digital Lunchtime Business and Industry Series will be delivered to your screens by the Australian Packaging & Processing Machinery Association (APPMA), starting on 17 September.

There’s no such thing as a free lunch. Well actually… there is now.

When creating the overarching theme for the Business & Industry Conference, the APPMA landed on Investing in Resilience. Little did it know how the rest of the year would unfold and how timely this lunchtime series will be for its members and the industry.

There is an overriding theme for each Digital Lunchtime Series session. Pick one or attend all.

Registrations for the Digital Lunchtime Series are free and open now.

The full program can be viewed here.

Be online for the Win
For those that login and attend all three free Digital Lunchtime Series sessions, as well as engage with the speakers and panels, there will be a major prize awarded of AirPod Pros and a hamper filled with Australian products (valued from $450). There are also minor prizes for those who register and engage with the series.

Manufacturing – the new engine of growth

The first lunchtime session in the series explores the theme of 'Manufacturing as the New Engine of Growth' and will provide an international view on advanced manufacturing technologies, while the corresponding panel discussion will consist of local leaders focusing on recovery relevant role of manufacturing, re-shoring and supply chain security and what opportunities that provides for industry growth.

Cyber security – a Catch 22?

The second session in the series focuses on cyber security and the growing risk for the packaging and processing industry, particularly with the evolution of connected factories and Industry 4.0. It's a bit of a Catch 22 – embrace digital transformation and be more susceptible to cyber-attack or don't and get left behind.

Deloitte’s head of Cyber Risk David Owen will be sharing what you need to be doing to be increasing vigilance and resilience in your organisation in the face of this growing threat. The panel discussion on cyber security will have industry leaders from two iconic Australian food and beverage companies, Lion and Arnott’s, who will share their experiences of reducing cyber risk.

How do you transform into a smart factory: Industry 4.0

The third and final session is an Industry 4.0 deep dive by smart manufacturing and Industry 4.0 evangelist, John Broadbent.

Part One will showcase an Australian smart factory case study that illustrates the transformation process. Part Two is your opportunity to ask those burning Industry 4.0 questions and address any challenges your organisation is currently experiencing.

Food & Drink Business

Fonterra has announced Anna Palairet is the new chief operating officer, having acted in the role since June 2023. CEO Miles Hurrell says Palairet has “extensive experience in operational, customer, sustainability, and sales roles”.

Food & Drink Business editor Kim Berry's take on the big news stories this week, and what caught her eye overseas. How will the Future Made in Australia Act actually be delivered? Shanghai trials traffic light labelling, and Solar Food, making protein out of (virtually) nothing at all, opens its commercial scale facility (that's it in the pic).

Food Frontier’s industry leading annual alternative proteins conference, AltProteins 24, is on in Melbourne on 10 October, with early bird tickets now available.
