Cyber security is in the spotlight in Session 2 of the APPMA's free Digital Lunchtime Series, taking place this week Thursday, 23 September, at 12.30pm -1.30pm AEST.

Every week there’s a new cyber security story that hits the media. And these are just the ones we hear about. It’s a growing risk for the packaging and processing industry, particularly with the evolution of connected factories and Industry 4.0. It's a bit of a Catch 22 – embrace digital transformation and be more susceptible to cyber-attack or don't and get left behind.

Deloitte’s partner for Cyber Risk Advisory, David Owen will share what needs to be done to increase vigilance and resilience in any organisation in the face of this growing threat in this Thursday’s Digital Lunchtime Series.

Smart factories are the next step for many and that will see dependency on technology rise quite significantly. He sees resilience as an end-to-end concept and organisations need to invest in understanding their system’s ability to withstand and respond to an attack.

Panel – a Tale of two viruses
The panel discussion on cyber security will feature industry leaders sharing their experience with cyber security. Information Security director from Australian food and beverage giant Lion, Jamie Rossato, will join Mark Dingley, CEO of Matthews Australasia, who offers a SME perspective on cybersecurity (or the tale of two viruses as he now refers to 2020), along with Rosanne Jessop, managing director of Pilz Industrial Automation, whose German headquarters where hit by a ransomware attack in 2019.

Winners Circle
The APPMA has some exciting prizes for those attending all three series. To win the grand prize, you need to attend all three sessions, answer the trivia questions and engage as much as possible to earn points. To win the lucky 'virtual door' prize at one of the sessions, log in and be online for the whole session.

Meet and Greet: 2021 style
This is a great chance to explore the dedicated APPMA meeting hub ,which is available for Full Access delegates and the place where you can connect with other attendees to arrange instant or scheduled meetings.

Food & Drink Business

Registrations are now open for Weld Australia’s 2025 National Manufacturing Summit, set to take place on 24 July at the Shangri-La Sydney. This year’s Summit theme is ‘Manufacturing Australia’s Future: Local Strength, Global Impact’, coming at a critical time as rising costs and a shrinking skilled workforce increase pressure on the industry.

The Spirit of Craft Awards has announced its 2025 winners, the competition's second year of spotlighting producers from around the world, with Launceston Distillery’s Single Malt Tawny Cask Matured coming out on top.

The food & beverage manufacturing industry is facing many challenges, but there is light at the end of the tunnel. Infor Asia Pacific and Japan senior vice president and general manager, Terry Smagh, says leveraging new technology, specifically enterprise automation and Artificial Intelligence (AI), will help to address these challenges.
