Amcor has completed construction of a healthcare packaging coating facility in Selangor, Malaysia, which the company says will strengthen supply chain resilience and reduce lead times for medical device manufacturers in the Asia Pacific region.

The new facility is an expansion of Amcor’s existing Selangor site, creating an integrated campus. According to the company, it is the first in Asia capable of producing both top and bottom substrates for medical device packaging. It also marks the region's first use of air knife coating technology.

This site features water-based coating systems, online inspection, and high-speed air knife coating, which the company says improves product consistency while minimising material waste.

“Producing our industry-leading global product platform locally brings us closer to our customers, enhancing supply security and flexibility,” said Virginie Maes, vice president of Global Healthcare at Amcor.

Chris Kenneally, president of Amcor Flexibles Asia Pacific, said, “By introducing advanced coating technology and boosting local production capacity, we are better positioned to meet the growing regional demand for sterile, reliable packaging and to offer our customers greater flexibility and security.”

The Selangor facility forms part of Amcor’s broader expansion in healthcare packaging across Asia Pacific. Other recent moves include acquiring healthcare packaging company MDK in China, establishing a grid lacquer paper unit in India, and constructing a co-extrusion blown film and printing plant in Singapore.
