Woolworths has added a new marker on the packaging of foods which it claims has passed its nutrition testing.

The supermarket chain has launched a new food range created by nutritionists and chefs which carries the “Green Seal of Approval” as well as other ratings and origin information on pack.

Woolworths general manager of FoodCo Marketing Peter Hathaway said the range was "leading the way in improvements being made to product transparency on packaging, with Health Star Ratings and Country of Origin labelling [also] being rolled out across the range.”

The marker is intended to let customers know to expect a "delicious, high quality product with no artificial colours or flavours", Woolworths said.

The range includes marinated butterflied chicken, ice cream, yoghurts and salads, crackers, cheese and cookies, and the launch follows an 18 month review, reformulation and rebrand of its food range, resulting in reduced salt, sugar and saturated fats, as well as less product packaging.
