Tip Top Bakeries has introduced 30 per cent recycled content into its low density polyethylene (LDPE) bread bags, using the ISCC mass balance approach. The new packaging, supplied by Amcor and which made its debut on shelves in September 2024, is now available across Tip Top The One, Tip Top The One Gluten Free, and Tip Top 9 Grain loaves in all major retailers nationwide.

The company says the move will remove 160 tonnes of virgin plastic by December 2025. This sustainable packaging initiative follows Tip Top’s introduction of 100 per cent recycled and recyclable cardboard bread tags in 2020, a shift that eliminated 140 million single-use plastic tags from local waste streams annually.

Graeme Cutler, director of sales & ESG lead at Tip Top Australia, said, "Tip Top is committed to feeding Australian communities in a more sustainable and responsible way, taking steps towards tackling the issue of plastic waste while maintaining the freshness and quality of our bread. This initiative marks a significant milestone in our partnership with packaging suppliers to help drive positive change in our industry."

Tip Top worked with packaging supplier Amcor to source recycled plastic and reduce virgin plastic use in the production of the bread bags through mass balance. Richard Smith, director of sustainability for Amcor Flexibles Asia Pacific, said, "At Amcor, we are dedicated to pioneering packaging solutions that reduce reliance on virgin plastics while maintaining the quality and safety consumers expect. This partnership not only underscores Tip Top's role in the bakery aisle but also demonstrates the impact that collaboration across the value chain and innovation can have on driving the circular economy forward in Australia."

Amcor’s production of the new Tip Top bread bags is certified by The International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) PLUS Scheme, with recycled material allocated via the mass balance approach.

Treasury Wine Estates (TWE) says it is not in a position to revise its guidance for FY16 due to lower-than-expected performance in China and distribution issues in California. The company said it was unlikely to meet FY26 depletion targets for Penfolds in China.

For more than 35 years, family-owned producer, Gourmet Dairy Co., has been manufacturing sauces, dairy and non-dairy products under its own brands and as a contract manufacturer for some of Australia’s most recognised labels. Now, the company is investing more than $1 million to expand its production capabilities and support new product innovation.

Expressions of interest are now open for tenancy at the $17.14 million Central Coast Food Manufacturing Innovation Hub, expected to open in March 2026.
