The Australian Institute of Packaging (AIP) will hold the second session in its Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) webinar series on Wednesday 10 December, from 10am to 11am AEDT.

The first session, held in September, provided an overview of the European Union’s new PPWR, which came into force on 11 February 2025. It outlined the regulation’s aim to reduce packaging waste by 15 per cent per person by 2040 (compared to 2018 levels) through measures such as reducing single-use and overpackaged items. The session also covered requirements for all packaging to be recyclable by 2030, the introduction of reuse and refill systems, and new eco-modulated Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) fees based on recyclability.

The upcoming session will focus on the practical aspects of implementing and complying with the new European PPWR, with presenters outlining what companies need to do to meet regulatory requirements.

The session will cover key implementation steps, particularly the conformity assessment process, with guidance for importers and other stakeholders on how the assessment should be conducted. Attendees will also gain insights into operational details and reporting requirements relevant to brands, suppliers, and manufacturers.

Presenters include Lina Wimmer, senior consultant at Circular Analytics, and Charlotte Neumair, team lead consultant at Circular Analytics.

The third and final webinar in the series will explore PPWR data management and digitalisation.

The event will be held online via Zoom.
