Entering the Surry Hills premises of Harcus Design, I am immediately struck by the pervasive air of creativity in the studio emanating in large part from the beautiful packaging on shelf displays and in various stages of construction on worktops.

And it doesn’t take more than a few minutes of conversation to confirm that the primary source of this inventive energy is my interview subject, the celebrated Annette Harcus.

At the Australian Graphic Design Awards (AGDA) Hall of Fame Induction in November last year, the tribute to Harcus recognised her many achievements, noting that “for nearly 40 years she has created outstanding design across many disciplines, and her distinctive work is admired internationally, honoured by awards and featured in many publications”.

End Food Waste Australia (EFWA) and Hort Innovation have launched a new research program to tackle the challenges of harvest surplus and losses on-farm – a $2.5 billion opportunity for vegetable growers.

The federal government has confirmed it will not proceed with the Tax Laws Amendment (Incentivising Food Donations to Charitable Organisations) Bill 2024, saying the legislation contains “deficiencies that compromise its policy intent”, even as food insecurity remains at record levels across Australia.
