A student from Melbourne's RMIT University came up with a product and packaging concept for hotel guests wanting a better night's sleep.

Designed for the Grand Hyatt Hotel Melbourne as part of his Communication Design project, John Szetho housed sleep speakers and light balls within materials of paper, cotton, fabric, and foam.

The hotel's innovation team was looking for a solution that was unique, a little 'out-of-the-box', and aligned with its brand vision to "deliver moments of more".

It needed to appeal to both men and women, as well as international guests, and the look had to be luxurious and appropriate to the design of the Grand Hyatt's interior.

The concept also needed to address local influences of Melbourne culture.

Szetho came up with a product for guests that included two wireless stereo speakers, pre-programmed with six user-selectable soundscapes designed to help people relax, improve their mood, and alleviate stress.

Also included were palm-sized light balls that illuminate a palette of six changing colours in reference to some of Melbourne's most vibrant localities.

Szetho's project was also featured on Packaging of the World.
