The seventh outing for Pack Print International has been hailed as a success, setting new records for attendance.

Held in Bangkok, Pack Print International 2019 featured 325 international exhibitors from 30 countries and regions, and attracted more than 19,000 visitors from 62 countries; international visitors comprised 30 per cent of total delegates. Attendance figures were up 15 per cent on 2017

According to Gernot Ringling, managing director of Messe Düsseldorf Asia, the turnout emphasised optimism and economic confidence in both domestic and regional markets, and highlighted Pack Print International’s position as a premier packaging and printing trade show in Southeast Asia.

“Sales and business promotion activities remain at the heart of a trade exhibition and we are delighted that many successful business dealings and collaborations were formed right on the spot at Pack Print International 2019.

“The energy and dynamism across all four show days coupled with the healthy increase in visitor numbers, particularly from those overseas, reinforces the exhibition’s draw as a focal point for suppliers and buyers to gain prospects and quality leads, as well as to make business connections and inroads into Thailand and the regional marketplace,” he said.

Highlights of the expo included the return of the One Stop Pack and Print Pavilion; a dedicated Labelling Zone; a prototype showcase; and displays of product packaging designs by students of Toyota Art Camp University, as well as winning entries of the AsiaStar 2019 awards.

Major exhibitors ranged from printing press giant Heidelberg’s Speedmaster CX75 to Océ with its Colorado 1650 printer; HP Indigo’s end-to-end web-to-print solutions; and Oki’s new range of small single-cut label printers. T Masahiko of Oki Data Singapore said the show had opened up new opportunities for the company.

“This is one of the largest packaging and printing exhibitions in the region and has a very strong international following.

“We have been able to meet with quality customers from Philippines, Myanmar and the surrounding region – so it has served to be a good meeting point and participation for us,” he said.

The next Pack Print International show will be held from 22-25 September, 2021, at BITEC in Bangkok.

Food & Drink Business

Fonterra has announced Anna Palairet is the new chief operating officer, having acted in the role since June 2023. CEO Miles Hurrell says Palairet has “extensive experience in operational, customer, sustainability, and sales roles”.

Food & Drink Business editor Kim Berry's take on the big news stories this week, and what caught her eye overseas. How will the Future Made in Australia Act actually be delivered? Shanghai trials traffic light labelling, and Solar Food, making protein out of (virtually) nothing at all, opens its commercial scale facility (that's it in the pic).

Food Frontier’s industry leading annual alternative proteins conference, AltProteins 24, is on in Melbourne on 10 October, with early bird tickets now available.
