The development follows Canon’s acquisition of Edale in 2022 and its recent showcase of industrial packaging solutions at drupa. For printers and converters in Australia and New Zealand, it means they can now access Canon’s full suite of high-volume digital production inkjet systems as well as flexographic equipment from a single point of contact.

Craig Nethercott, managing director of Canon Production Printing Oceania, said the move reflects Canon’s ambitions to play a stronger role in the region’s commercial and industrial printing markets.

“We’re excited to bring Canon’s complete range of industrial label and packaging solutions to Oceania. This change means we can support converters and printers looking to diversify into the growing labels and packaging sector, backed by our local service expertise.”

The expanded portfolio will be particularly relevant to businesses running both inkjet and flexographic technologies, such as book printers that combine high-volume inkjet for book blocks with short-run or carton requirements.

Technology in focus

The Canon LabelStream LS2000 is a water-based, five-colour (CMYK plus white) inkjet digital label press designed for industrial-scale label production. It prints at speeds up to 40 m/min with a maximum width of 340 mm. Using water-based inks, the LS2000 delivers high productivity while supporting converters’ sustainability goals.

The Edale CartonLine is a single-pass flexographic system that integrates printing, cutting, creasing, and embellishment in one workflow. Designed for substrates up to 700 microns, it reduces waste, footprint, and makeready time, and is suited to sectors such as cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and premium food packaging.

The Edale LabelLine offers modular flexographic production in web widths from 350 to 570 mm, handling substrates from 12 to 450 microns. Its architecture allows additional print stations, embellishment modules and finishing units to be integrated over time, enabling converters to scale capability and improve efficiency.
