Australian wine brand Jacob’s Creek is once again making its mark on Finnish shelves, with its Double Barrel Shiraz returning to Alko in a ready-to-gift Paptic bag for the holiday season.

First introduced in 2021, the collaboration between the Australian wine label and Finnish partners offers a premium, sustainability-led solution that has resonated strongly with Nordic shoppers.

The familiar pairing sees each bottle pre-packed in a durable, lightweight Paptic bag, giving consumers an elegant, grab-and-go gifting option without the need for additional wrapping or packaging.

“We’re excited to bring back this sustainable gift solution for Jacob’s Creek Double Barrel Shiraz. The Paptic bag combines premium design with environmental responsibility – perfect for holiday gifting,” says Heini Mikkonen, Business Manager, Wines at Hartwall Oy.

Unlike traditional cardboard boxes, the recyclable Paptic bag is lightweight, moisture-resistant and sturdy, meaning no extra carry bag is required. The solution aligns with modern consumer expectations for environmentally responsible yet convenient packaging, while maintaining the premium cues associated with Jacob’s Creek.

Designed by Packdesign ID, the bag features customised graphics and special print effects that reinforce the brand look and feel.

“Our goal is to help brands communicate their values through packaging. With Paptic material, we can design solutions that are both visually distinctive and environmentally sustainable. This gift bag speaks the same visual language as the Jacob’s Creek bottle inside; it is clearly communicating the quality of the wine,” says Maija Olkkonen-Seppo, CEO of Packdesign ID.

Designed for circularity

Made from wood-fibre-based Paptic, the gift bag uses 30 per cent less material than conventional cardboard boxes. The material’s flexibility and strength make it suitable for reusable packaging, while its recyclability in existing fibre streams ensures easy end-of-life disposal for consumers.

“It’s exciting to see Jacob’s Creek wines presented once again in Paptic gift bags. This collaboration showcases how sustainable materials and strong design come together to create packaging that performs, both on the shelf and for the environment,” says Esa Torniainen, chief strategy officer at Paptic Ltd.

The Paptic gift bag addresses evolving consumer expectations – delivering visual impact alongside a reduced environmental footprint. Developed originally as a plastic alternative in flexible packaging, Paptic materials offer durability, recyclability and strong shelf presence.

With the EU’s proposed Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) set to introduce more stringent requirements around recyclability, reusability and material efficiency, Paptic is already aligned with future standards. For Jacob’s Creek, the return of this value-aligned gifting format underscores how brands can meet regulatory demand while enhancing consumer appeal
