The final APPMA member dinner for 2019 will be held in Brisbane on Tuesday 12 November, featuring guest speaker Amy Cobb of OzHarvest.

Cobb, the Queensland state manager, will present the OzHarvest story, as well as its initiatives, its challenges, and how businesses can support it, says Mark Dingley, chair of APPMA.

“OzHarvest is Australia’s leading food rescue organisation with a driving purpose to Nourish Our Country. It began with a simple concept to rescue good food that would otherwise go to waste and deliver it to people in need. The OzHarvest Family collect surplus food from donors like supermarkets, hotels and airlines that would otherwise go to landfill.

“OzHarvest Brisbane rescues over 100,000 kilograms of quality, excess food each month and delivers directly to more than 120 local charities including school breakfast programs, domestic violence shelters, emergency food relief programs, youth groups, and street vans,” said Dingley.

Dingley urges members to RSVP to appma@appma.com.au before 4 November. The event will begin at 6pm on 12 November at the Marriott Hotel, 515 Queen St, Brisbane.

Food & Drink Business

Fonterra has announced Anna Palairet is the new chief operating officer, having acted in the role since June 2023. CEO Miles Hurrell says Palairet has “extensive experience in operational, customer, sustainability, and sales roles”.

Food & Drink Business editor Kim Berry's take on the big news stories this week, and what caught her eye overseas. How will the Future Made in Australia Act actually be delivered? Shanghai trials traffic light labelling, and Solar Food, making protein out of (virtually) nothing at all, opens its commercial scale facility (that's it in the pic).

Food Frontier’s industry leading annual alternative proteins conference, AltProteins 24, is on in Melbourne on 10 October, with early bird tickets now available.
