The Australian Institute of Packaging (AIP) will be launching a half-day training course on sustainable packaging design in Melbourne.

The Introduction to Sustainable Packaging Design course will be held on Wednesday 17 October, and will include a visit to a Material Recovery Facility (MRF) to take participants through the equipment and discuss a range of materials handling issues.

Presented by Ralph Moyle, AIP education co-ordinator and food packaging consultant, the course will answer the question of how to work through the maze of demands to ensure packaging meets environmental challenges.

The training is designed to assist the industry in answering questions stemming from the War on Waste series, and also addresses changes in retailer and consumer trends and behaviours, according to the AIP.

The course will provide attendees a better understanding of the practical guidelines and criteria needed to design and develop sustainable packaging including the Sustainability Hierarchy of Reduce, Reuse then Recycle, and the Circular Economy approach to packaging and the environment.

Discussions will also cover plastic, glass and metal packaging and their impact on the environment, and whether the use of non-renewable resources, plant-based bioplastics, compostable and recycled materials, and various tools can assist their business in understanding the full life of packaging.

Participants are invited to bring with them a sample of their company’s packaging materials to use as a case study.

Limited spots are available on the course. To book your place, click here.
