The World Packaging Association (WPO) has opened the entries to the prestigious WorldStar Packaging Awards. They will be open through 19 October.

WPO president Pierre Pienaar said, “We encourage every WPO member across the globe to help us promote the largest and most important global packaging award.”

Packaging innovations eligible for WorldStar are those that have already received a national award recognised by WPO.

In Australia and New Zealand, winners of the recent 2020 Packaging Innovation & Design Awards are eligible to enter.

“In its 53rd year, WorldStar is one of the major events of WPO and last year attracted momre than 300 entries from 36 countries around the globe. As always, our aim for the next competition is to increase the number of entries and countries participating,” Pienaar said.

Important dates on the WorldStar Packaging Awards calendar are:

  • 19 October – Closing date for entries
  • The week beginning 23 November, 2020 – Entries will be judged in South Africa
  • 15 December – Results will be announced.
  • May 2021 – Awards presentations and gala evening in Buenos Aires, Argentina

Western Australian marine science solutions company, SeaStock, has secured a $740,000 matched co-investment with Australia’s Food and Beverage Accelerator (FaBA) to develop functional ingredients from seaweed.

Mudgee-based winemaker, Lowe Family Wine Co., has installed a landmark $850,000 solar and battery system, developed by SPS Solar + Water. With this project, the company has become one of the first wineries in Australia to operate entirely off-grid.

The financial plight of Maggie Beer Holdings (MBH) – it recorded a loss of $24.3 million in FY25 and $28.2 million in FY24 – has been thrown a lifeline by two of Australia’s leading food manufacturers.
