Entries for the 2021 Australasian Packaging Innovation and Design Awards (PIDA) for Australia and New Zealand closes on 5 March, so anyone still needing to make an application should get in quick before they miss out.

The Australian Institute of Packaging (AIP) have designed the Australasian PIDA to recognise companies and individuals who are making significant difference in their field in the ANZ region.

The PIDA is an exclusive award program for all ANZ entries into the WorldStar Packaging Awards, which is coordinated by the World Packaging Organisation (WPO).

2021 PIDA Categories include:

  • Design Innovation of the Year: Food;
  • Design Innovation of the Year: Beverage;
  • Design Innovation of the Year: Health, Beauty & Wellness;
  • Design Innovation of the Year: Domestic & Household;
  • Design Innovation of the Year: Labelling & Decoration;
  • Design Innovation of the Year: Outside the Box;
  • Sustainable Packaging Special Award;
  • Save Food Packaging Design Special Award;
  • Accessible & Inclusive Packaging Design Special Award;
  • Marketing Special Award;
  • Young Packaging Professional of the Year; and
  • Industry Packaging Professional of the Year.

Western Australian marine science solutions company, SeaStock, has secured a $740,000 matched co-investment with Australia’s Food and Beverage Accelerator (FaBA) to develop functional ingredients from seaweed.

Mudgee-based winemaker, Lowe Family Wine Co., has installed a landmark $850,000 solar and battery system, developed by SPS Solar + Water. With this project, the company has become one of the first wineries in Australia to operate entirely off-grid.

The financial plight of Maggie Beer Holdings (MBH) – it recorded a loss of $24.3 million in FY25 and $28.2 million in FY24 – has been thrown a lifeline by two of Australia’s leading food manufacturers.
