Visy has entered into a memorandum of understanding with the Advanced Resource Recovery Centre (ARRC) Gold Coast and the City of Gold Coast to progress plans for a new materials recovery facility within the ARRC precinct at Stapylton.

The agreement also covers collaboration on a joint feasibility study into hard plastics processing and recycling at the site. The proposed facility would sit alongside Visy’s soon-to-be-completed glass recycling and remanufacturing hub at Yatala.

Mark De Wit, CEO at Visy, said the partnership supports the company’s plan to increase recycling capacity. “Visy is proud to partner with the City and ARRC Gold Coast and invest in new recycling infrastructure. This project will allow Visy to expand our recycling capacity, support local manufacturing and create new green collar jobs. The City and ARRC Gold Coast are to be commended for their leadership and vision, and we look forward to working together to deliver long-term environmental and economic benefits for the region.”

Tom Tate, Mayor of the City of Gold Coast and chair of ARRC Gold Coast, said the partnership indicates strong industry confidence in the precinct. “ARRC will be the heart of a new circular economy for our city and our region. By partnering with Visy, we are building an Australian-first innovation precinct that keeps valuable materials in circulation, creates new industry and unlocks the jobs of tomorrow. For our community, this is about moving beyond landfill and creating a greener, smarter and more sustainable future.”
