Visy is recruiting more than 100 operators, technicians and tradies for its glass recycling and manufacturing facility in Yatala, Queensland, which will begin operations in 2026.

Mike Woods, plant manager of the facility, said, “This part of the world is a great place to live and work. You’ll work on world-class equipment, and we’ll put you through the training you need to be job-ready from day one.”

No prior experience in glass manufacturing is required. Visy will provide a training program for new starters, giving exposure to industrial systems and opportunities to develop skills in a fast-evolving industry. Woods added: “It’s a rare opportunity to be part of something from day one. We’re building a team from the ground up and hiring across all skill sets  from shift managers and technicians to tradies and operators.”

The facility will use oxygen-fuelled furnaces and recycled glass preheating technology. At full capacity, it will produce up to 1 billion glass bottles annually and recycle up to 200,000 tonnes of used glass. Visy says this will support its target of an average 70 per cent recycled content in glass packaging across Australia and New Zealand.

The site is adjacent to Visy’s cardboard box, beverage can and food can factories, forming Queensland’s leading food and beverage packaging precinct. It also provides local supply for brands including Asahi Beverages, Lion, Bundaberg and Coca-Cola.

McCormick & Company Inc. has acquired a further 25 per cent of McCormick de Mexico, a JV formed in 1947, for $1.1 billion (US$750 million). The deal increases McCormick’s ownership to 75 per cent and gives the global company a strategic platform to expand into Latin America.
