The SPE Annual Plastics and Circular Economy Conference returns for 2022 on 22-23 November in Melbourne, and this year, comes with a changed format compared to previous years.

The SPE Conference, taking place in person at Pullman on the Park in East Melbourne, will bring people together to learn and see into the dynamic future of Australasia’s entire plastics supply chain, covering trends in design, policy, manufacture, regulations and trade. 

Focused around national and global targets, pressures and markets, the event will delve into a world of opportunities for experts, suppliers and decision makers.

For the 2022 event, there will be keynote speakers and multiple sessions with three speakers for 10-15 minutes each, followed by an interactive Q&A session. In total, there will be more than 30 speakers participating in the event.

Some of the speakers include:

  • Innes Willox, CEO of the Australian Industry Group, speaking on risks and direction for plastics manufacturing and circularity;
  • Mattia Pellegrini, head of unit for waste to resources at the European Commission, speaking on directions in Europe for the world;
  • Ton van der Giessen, CEO of Van Werven Plastics Recycling, speaking on the success factors driving recycled content;
  • Lina Goodman, CEO of Tyre Stewardship Australia, speaking on the gaps weakening stewardship schemes;
  • Rachel Barker, CEO of Plastics NZ, speaking on mandated EPR for packaging and its ramifications; and
  • Andrew Smith, EGM at Pact Recycling, speaking on innovations essential for our future.

In addition, there is a virtual session on 25 November at night, which involves a number of European speakers, including Dame Ellen MacArthur from the Ellen MacArthur Foundation.

Pure Foods Tasmania (PFT) has appointed Robert (Rob) Knight as CEO and managing director, effective 1 July. He takes over from Malcolm McAully, who has led the company as executive chairman since the resignation of former CEO Michael Cooper in July 2024.
